Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located which was based in Washington DC. Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She served on an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered for the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including arm control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
